This was one of my wishes for watchOS. A timer mode where you could run it without it being obscured by the time when the always on display went dark.

Now you can just glance and see how long is left on your current timer.

I’ve been using the Apple Watch a lot more recently in a bid to improve my fitness and have a few thoughts on what I’d like to see in the next update.
Third party watch faces aren’t coming
I’m going to finally stop wanting third party watch faces, I don’t see them coming at all. Sorry for starting off negative on this one. I don’t see Apple wanting to deal with the constant copyright claims from the likes of Omega and the watch faces are part of the Apple Watch identity now so I see Apple wanting complete control.
Show me the timer or stopwatch all of the time
It’s always on for series 5 and 6 so it’s strange that when I run a timer I lose the info. My timer is replaced with the time, I then have to tap the screen to see the timer. Please Apple leave the timer on the screen.
Separate Fitness+ from the fitness app
I’m enjoying Fitness+ but it would feel less like a pressure sale from Apple if they took it into it’s own app like on the Apple TV.
It’s a small list
Yes, I’m using the watch almost daily and I feel it’s not far off done to me. Interactions are quick and for the most part it’s intuitive.
This may seem like a strange post but it might help someone wondering if their Apple Watch Series 2 is stuck on boot. My series 2 takes just over a minute to boot up after a restart.
With a new software release we usually lose a few models and with watchOS 7 we lose support for the series 2. watchOS 7 supports the 3, 4 and 5 models only.
I’m not sure if this is specific to watchOS 6 on my series 2 but I’m finding it as problematic at iOS 13 and wanted to reach out to see if anyone else is experiencing the same thing.
For me Reminders either never loads or loads with incorrect data, the calendar app freezes and now third party apps don’t install.
I’ve tried restarting my devices but aside from a complete reinstall I’m out of ideas.
I don’t wear my watch everyday but wanted to use it again to track walks and keep on top of appointments. But not being able to install third party apps means I’m pretty stuck.
It’s finally here and I’m hoping it isn’t going to have too much of a negative effect on my stellar series 2 battery life.
I’ll report back in after some testing.
This is very buggy but thought I’d share how it looks. Very promising.
Expect lots of updates on iOS 12 and watchOS 5 this week on the blog. I’ve just started to test apps that use the Siri watch face so I’ll be reporting in on how they are performing and some of my favourites.
I’ll be upgrading my 2 year old Apple Watch this year I think. Aside from overall slowness I needed to restart it a few times over the last week due to weather complication issues. Note, this is on watchOS 5 so odds are there will be debug code running that will contribute to the slowness.
How’s your startup time?
I’ve been having several issues on watchOS 4, the most annoying being weather not displaying and losing connectivity to my iPhone. It’s gone to Apple for servicing once already so I thought what the heck I’ll install the dev beta.
My initial impressions are good. It hasn’t lost sync and the weather app is working well so far.
I’m noticing a few little tweaks that I’m enjoying in watchOS 5. Timers now rememberers your last few so that you can simply tap on them rather than set a new custom time. Another welcome change is a more detailed weather app. Inheriting some of the changes from iOS in that it now shows wind and air quality.
Performance on my series 2 also feels improved. It’s great to see the same iOS performance ethos coming over to the watch.
