I’ve started to go through my archives and upload music I created over 10 years ago, I have a few things to go up but here is the first. Please subscribe and help support the channel.

So far so good. These sub £100 pair are working well with music and guitar.

IK Multimedia are a great company and this release could be good timing for me looking at different ways to record for YouTube.

As you would have seen I’ve started to jump into creating more guitar focused content again on YouTube after a long break. I’m recording a bit bare bones but I’m enjoying it. I’ve got a lot of stress to manage in my day job and I’m finding that I’m genuinely excited to do content creation again. It’s a great distraction.
I’ve bought some basic gear to help light my room and record guitar and my editing skills are basic but I’m having fun.
I’m not at a level where the channel supports me in purchasing stuff for review but you have to start somewhere.
If you like my content here and would like a free way to support me, please help me get to that magic 1000 subscription number by giving me a follow. It’s much appreciated.

This is a cool new bit of kit to get me back into guitar. In this one unit I have an amp, pedal board and USB interface.

I’ve been wanting to kick off some new creative projects and I think I’ve settled on going back to my roots in a way and creating guitar (and some related tech) videos on YouTube. I started off with this in 2008 and stopped a few years later, lots going on. I subsequently lost the account and am starting again. I am doing this for fun and it’s a bit rough and ready, but at the moment that’s the point I am experimenting and getting my skills up to date.
I have started to do some shorts and videos at my YouTube here, please subscribe and let me know what you think.

This video is by far the best I’ve come across to show you how to record your guitar for YouTube.

I shared a link to all of the new (mostly SE) line up from PRS and it wasn’t until they started being listed here in the UK that I realised how expensive they are. I know the economy isn’t great but I can’t see how an SE is now more than £1000. The whole point of SE is student edition, which £1000 isn’t a student friendly price. I know there are cheaper SE models available but they are older models, the new ones in my opinion are all too expensive.

I’m trying to get back into guitar and I’m pretty pleased I can record straight into my iPad mini.
I’m using GarageBand on the iPad as my recording app. I’m not 100% happy with it just yet because it’s onboarding amp models I can’t get rid of. I use a Line 6 POD GO with a load of effects and amp modelling built in. When it’s used with GarageBand it sounds kind of over processed.
Anyone got any ideas?

As you get older and other priorities come to the front it’s easy to forget about hobbies you used to enjoy.
As the years have gone by my guitars went in their cases and I just lost touch with playing. This week I started to pick it up again and it’s been a good relaxer. Starting to learn some new stuff via guitar tab apps has been a nice change.
It’s also got me thinking about trading in my iPad Mini for a larger iPad.
Have you recently picked up old hobbies?

I’m getting back into playing guitar and one of my heroes growing up was Slash. This is a great 1hr+ video showing his history of collecting and includes some very special guitars including the 59 copy he used on Appetite and the cleanest original 59 I’ve ever seen.

I’m a massive fan of the YAMAHA THR5 and it’s become my go to amp for playing and recording guitar at home. I’m using it plugged into my 2016 MacBook with Logic Pro or GarageBand.
First off you’ll need to install the drivers on your Mac (this is for Big Sur), head here. Then once downloaded, head into the folder that you downloaded and double click on the .PKG file and follow the install instructions. If prompted to enable extensions you’ll need to head into System Preferences, then General, then at the bottom you should see a prompt for Yamaha, click to allow then restart your Mac.
Once you have restarted then you just need to change the sound input settings in the system preferences. To do this you need to load system preferences, then click sound, then for OUTPUT select THR5.
You can now use this within Garageband or Logic Pro.

I’ve played guitar for as long as I can remember but recently found myself scouring the internet to find the best left handed kids guitar for a family member. This proved to be harder than I thought. First off there is a premium for any left handed guitar let alone one selling in small numbers like a 3/4 sized kids one so having a budget is important _ would say don’t spend more than £100 on one.
I wanted something that was great value for money, a good setup out of the box and something that could take a bit of a beating (headstocks are the most likely bit to get a hammering on walls and doors).
After a lot of searching I settled on the LA by Gear4music.
The day after this order it came in the post and I was surprised that aside from a tune up it played well out of the box, action a little high and strings a little higher gauge than I thought a kid would like but on the whole great. Certainly above what I was expecting at this price, I’m not sure if Gear4music set them up beforehand or it’s straight from the factory but either way I’m happy with the one that we got.
I was also surprised at the quality of the fit and finish (I’ve included some pics below) but there were no dents or scratches on the body, the controls all worked fine (albeit a little stiff), the frets where very well dressed and not sharp at all (a big plus on a guitar at this price) and the only things to point out was a little bit of damage on the front face of the headstock (see the images below) and the input jack is a little noisy when the cable is moved.
I have to say that I’m blown away buy these guitars for the money and will do my best to review some of the full sized models. If you’re looking for a kids electric guitar and don’t want to break the bank or struggle getting one that’s in stock then you really can’t go wrong with one of these.
Note: I have included the Amazon Affiliate link in this post, if you purchase one it will help support the site and further review items (thanks!).

It’s been quiet on the blog but I have been thinking about what I can do for creative projects to have a bit of a change. I think I’m going to start to look at getting back into my guitar and making music but this time it’ll be with an iPad focus. Recording an EP has been on my mind for a while so I’m going to plan out some projects that allow me to do this and take iOS along with me, all produced on the iPad. I need to work out how I am going to record and the MIC etc, but digging out my setup has been fun – watch this space.
