Xbox Series X, a longer term review

I’ve owned my Xbox Series X for 3 months pretty soon and I wanted to share some of my thoughts on using it day to day.

The first thing of note, I’ve realised I haven’t turned on the PS4 since that time also. My game of choice for the PS4 has been Star Wars Battlefront but with the amount of fan noise that machine generates I just switched this over to the Xbox. Aside from Spider-Man there no exclusives from PlayStation that has me even thinking about a PS5. Like I’ve said previously with the existence of game pass I’ve had no reason to think about a PS5 at all, it’s a system seller.

From a usability perspective now I’m used to the Xbox user interface I’m sold. It’s so much slicker than PlayStation and managing downloads also makes more sense to me. The controller is heavier and bulkier but I like how chunky it is. Only downside is that it uses AA batteries so it’s not as environmentally friendly as having a built in rechargeable battery.

The machine itself is silent. Even playing Microsoft Flight Simulator I can’t get them to make any noise. Load times are also rapid, another reason I’ve switched to playing Star Wars battlefront on the Xbox.

The biggest draw was gamepass and I haven’t been disappointed. Loved replaying all of the Halo games, discovered some greats like Forza Horizon and Psychonauts and I’m hooked on Flight Simulator.

Overall I have no regrets whatsoever about buying this console and I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a next generation console that wants a great selection of games that you don’t have to keep shelling out £60 a piece for.
